United Nations

The United Nations Security Council is meeting later today to discuss the crisis in Burma.

The White House has said it's very troubled about the actions of the military government, if reports that people have been killed turn out to be true.

The British prime minister, Gordon Brown, said the European Union was going to look at a range of possible sanctions against the military authorities.

Japan's newly-installed government called for the Burmese authorities to respond calmly to the protests.

A senior Indian official said Delhi was watching developments.
